All Estonian citizens have a duty to make sure that their residence data listed in the Population Register is correct. Registration of residence means that the data on the person’s residence is entered into the Population Register. The person has to notify about residency change in Estonia or abroad in 30 days after the move.
In order to do so, please fill out the application form and send it digitally signed or scanned by e-mail to [email protected] or by mail with a copy/photo of your Estonian identity document. It is also possible to update your address by logging in to e-population register in case you have a valid ID-card, PIN-codes and an ID-card reader or Mobile-ID, Smart-ID, EU eID.
If an Estonian citizen gets married, gives birth or divorces or his/her loved-one with Estonian citizenship passes away in Spain, it is vital to enter the event into Estonian Population Register. It can be done through the Embassy free of charge. Below you can find find the documents needed for the registration.
Attention! As of 2025, Spanish civil registry authorities issue digital certificates. Certificates of family events (including those with a multilingual standard form) can be ordered through the website of the Spanish Ministry of Justice: Trámites y Gestiones Personales.
If a Spanish civil registry authority has issued a document with a digital signature and seal, the following must be sent to the Embassy by email at [email protected]:
If, for any reason, it is not possible to issue the certificate, the original document must be translated in full into Estonian or English by a sworn translator or by another competent Spanish authority, or a multilingual standard form must be requested as an annex to the document.
A foreign document concerning a divorce must contain the personal data of the persons whose marriage was dissolved, the place and time of conclusion of the dissolved marriage, the details of the authority that issued the divorce decision, the date of the decision, and the date on which it entered into force.
Important! If only a Spanish-language certificate (certificado literal) or a paper certificate without a digital seal has been issued for the event, the original document must be certified with an apostille and sent to the Embassy by post, together with a notarised translation into Estonian/English, to the following address: Calle Claudio Coello 91-1D, 28006 Madrid. Original documents will be returned by certified post.
