The Estonian Police and Border Guard Board announced that biometrics will be applied to the Estonian citizen’s ID card and EU citizen’s ID card from 23.08.2021, which means that the design of the ID card will change, fingerprints will be collected and biometrics (photo, fingerprint) will be applied to the chip.
Due to this, it is not possible to apply for a new ID card in self-service portal or by post if the fingerprints are invalid. New fingerprints can be given at the embassy by registering in advance.
